President Sally Kornbluth, Provost Cynthia Barnhart, and Chancellor Melissa Nobles spoke on WBUR about the value of representation for women and underrepresented groups in STEM. WBUR noted that “all of the university’s top administrators are now women.”

With the new MIT Alumni Lounge, some 143,000 alumni who once walked the Infinite Corridor as students now have a permanent home there. “Now there is a place right in the heart of campus that we alumni can really call our own,” Annalisa Weigel says.

Gel-like materials that can be injected into the body hold great potential to repair or replace diseased tissues. A new framework could help researchers design these materials, speeding up what has until now has been a trial-and-error process.

Netia McCray ’14 founded and leads Mbadika, a nonprofit focused on giving young people exposure to STEM.“I want to give them the resources to be able to make the world a better place, which is what MIT was able to do for me,” said McCray.

When not analyzing RNA — her “favorite biomolecule” — senior Sherry Nyeo focuses on enhancing undergraduate life at MIT. “I like helping people if I can,” says the computer science and molecular biology major, “because I got helped so much.

MITES Saturdays is a multiyear MIT program for 7th-12th graders. Participants gain exposure to a variety of science and engineering fields, explore the ethical implications of technology, and learn about the intersection of STEM and the humanities.
